Mt Whitney is the tallest mountain peak in the continental U.S. at 14,505 feet above sea level. It is located in the Eastern Sierras about 12 miles west of Lone Pine, CA. Visitors from all over the world come here to visit. The visitors show up to take in the breathtaking landscape views and some attempt to hike to the top.
The Whitney Portal Store can be found in the Whitney Portal parking lot. You can find supplies, souvenirs and information about the area in the store. You can hike the Mt. Whitney trail begins next to the store which will lead you closer to the top. The Whitney Portal area also has a small fishing pond, campground and picnic area. Waterfalls flow on the Lone Pine Creek along the southwest corner of the parking lot.

The Mt. Whitney trail offers some amazing views from higher above the Whitney Portals. We only hiked a little over a mile up on this hike and the photos below are what I captured.

Summary
The beautiful day offered some great photo opportunities for the day. It was a great day to spend with family and take a short hike up the trail. I am hopeful to go back and hike farther up the trail to capture more of its natural beauty.
