We had some patches of clouds hovering around our local mountains recently so I went out with the camera. Equipment used on this short photography adventure were:
- Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera
- Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens
- Vanguard Veo 265ab Tripod
I was hoping for more pink color in the clouds during sunset but didn’t get much to admire. The day still offered some nice opportunities.
Five Fingers Clouds
I parked on a dirt road about a mile north of Five Fingers just off Highway 395 near Inyokern in Short Canyon. The photo below was taken facing the Five Fingers peaks at 5:21pm March 17, 2022. The sun was setting over the mountain tops.

This photo was edited in Corel AfterShot Pro 3 with three bracketed photos. Each photo was shot with the same ISO, F-Stop and focal length. The exposure time of each photo was the only differing factor. Check the camera settings below.
Camera settings:
- ISO = 400
- F-Stop = f/5.6
- Focal Length = 90mm
- Exposure times
- 1/1250 seconds
- 1/2500 seconds
- 1/5000 seconds

Camera settings:
- ISO = 400
- F-Stop = f/11
- Focal Length = 24mm
- Exposure times
- 1/40 seconds
- 1/125 seconds
- 1/400 seconds
Cholla Cacti Foreground with Mountain Background
The photo below was taken facing north from the same location. I noticed this cholla cacti standing all alone with a beautiful mountain background.

Camera settings:
- ISO = 400
- F-Stop = f/5.6
- Focal Length = 24mm
- Exposure times
- 1/320 seconds
- 1/1000 seconds
- 1/3200 seconds
Conclusion
This was a short trip to work on more bracketing techniques. It was good to get out with the camera after the past couple weeks. All the bracketed photos taken were with 3 photos, I plan to experiment with 5 photos next time out.
Let me know what you think of the photos taken on this trip in the comment below.

Nice. The colors look almost iridescent, almost polarized, completely mesmerizing.
